Karen Hingston: Chair of Governors
My name is Karen Hingston, I’m a parent of two grown up children and ‘nanny’ to a very lively 4 year old, which I love. I have lived in Peterborough for over 35 years and believe our city has so much to offer. I have recently retired having worked for Peterborough City Council for over 20 years, working with children and families in a variety of roles during this time. For the last 12 of these as Head of Early Years & Childcare, I am very passionate about ensuring we give all children the best start in life, the skills and experiences they will need as they grow into adults. I have had links with Fulbridge for a number of years and really believe it is an amazing school that not only provides a high standard of learning but cares about its pupils, their families and its staff, because of this I was honoured to be approached to be a Governor a number of years ago and more recently to step into the role as Chair of Governors.
David Chandler: Vice Chair of Governors
I have been a school governor with Fulbridge Academy since 2020 and have been serving as the vice chair since 2022. I am a parent governor, with two children at Fulbridge with a third to start in 2024. I work for Cambridge University Press and Assessments as a senior data analyst in Academic Technology. I’m also a volunteer youth leader at St John Ambulance helping to run a unit of Badgers (members aged 5-10) and a DofE Leader supporting the Cadets (aged 11-18).
I am passionate about education and believe that all children deserve the opportunity to reach their full potential. I’m committed to working with the other governors, the principal and the staff to ensure that Fulbridge Academy provides a high quality education and a safe and inspirational environment for all of its pupils.
I was born in Peterborough and was a pupil here at Fulbridge myself before it was an academy. I have very fond memories from my time here and I want to ensure that all pupils leaving year 6 can look back on their Fulbridge experience with fondness too knowing that we’ve set the strong educational foundations for their years ahead.
Erum Khan: Community Governor
My name is Erum Khan. My journey to Peterborough dates back to 2012 when I finished my PhD from the University of Birmingham and commuted to Peterborough for work. This city of diverse culture and enriched tradition welcomed me with arms wide open. I grew here so well that now I am a proud mother of 9 year old insightful daughter who is studying in Fulbridge Academy and a four-year-old adventure-oriented son who keeps me busy outside of my office hours.
Dentistry is my passion and I am serving the community as a dental therapist and a radio presenter of a local radio in Peterborough. I have been associated with academia for thirteen years and teaching oral medicine to postgraduate and undergraduate students. I believe that the prevention of oral diseases should be recognised as the most sustainable way to ensure affordable oral health care with minimal impact on the environment.
I have been mentoring undergraduate students for their academic and research projects in the UAE. I am passionate about contributing to the outreach programme of dental education and well-being. Also, I am a trained clinician for oral health evaluation of children with learning disabilities and have undertaken my responsibilities as a clinical director of Special Olympics Pakistan.
I am honoured to contribute as a community governor at Fulbridge Academy. I liaise with the school lead team to witness the school's progress and discuss all measures to be taken to support children, parents and teachers. I ensure that every discussion is backed by expert insights. Undoubtedly, the school is providing modern learning opportunities to our children with a broader vision of diversity, inclusion and self-esteem. I believe every day is a learning day and together we can work better to strengthen the confidence of our youth for them sky is the limit.
